Can Evren studies how professional sports cultures serve as public spheres for the construction of political cultures and ideas. His book project examines how the culture professional men’s soccer constructs democratic and commercial visions of the nation-state in Turkey and dramatizes conflicts between nationalism and globalization. He received a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University in 2020.
