Michael D. Butvinik Hospitality Internship Travel (HIT) Scholarship

Michael D. Butvinik Hospitality Internship Travel (HIT) Scholarship

In loving memory of Michael D. Butvinik (SHA ’13), his parents Joan Clowes and Jeffrey Butvinik, are proud to establish the Michael D. Butvinik Hospitality Internship Travel Scholarship Fund at the School of Hospitality Administration (SHA). Their generosity will help subsidize the travel costs associated with many internship opportunities that are available to SHA students.  Students participating in an internship through a formal study abroad program do not qualify for this scholarship.

“We understand that sometimes even the best professional opportunities come at a cost, and sometimes that cost may be too high to undertake financially. We feel truly privileged that this scholarship will make professional opportunities more accessible,” said Arun Upneja, Dean of the School of Hospitality Administration.

Up to three scholarship awards will be awarded to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in Hospitality Administration. Awards will be up to $1,000 per student awardee.

SHA Students have the opportunity to apply for one of three scholarship awards including the following details:

  • Applicants must be pursuing an internship that is located outside of their home address or permanent residence
  • The scholarship is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors who demonstrate a commitment to the field of hospitality through their leadership with a SHA student club or through Greek Life
  • Applicants must provide a 500-word or less essay explaining the internship they are pursuing, how the internship will help towards their career goals, and what being awarded this stipend would mean to them.
  • Applicants must hold a minimum 3.0 GPA in their SHA courses

The 500-word (or less) essay should be sent via email to hcareers@bu.edu or hand delivered to the SHA Marriott Career Center. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2025.
