Meet the Funded: Building Authentic Relationships with Foundations
Monday, April 27, 12pm ET (Zoom)

As federal funding becomes more unpredictable, BU faculty are increasingly turning to foundations for support. At the same time, foundations have seen a significant rise in the number of proposals they receive. Requests for proposals are highly competitive and some foundations don’t accept unsolicited inquiries. Building authentic relationships with program officers is one pathway to success.

In this upcoming webinar, Foundation Relations will outline ways faculty can identify relevant program officers, reach out for meetings, prepare for conversations, and develop meaningful partnerships with foundations.

This session will provide an overview of BU resources to support faculty engagement with foundations, and will feature a panel discussion with principal investigators who have successful multi-year partnerships with foundations, including: Barr, ClimateWorks, Ford, Hewlett, Open Society, Walmart, Bob Woodruff, and many others.

The conversation will include practical advice about connecting with funders at conferences, leveraging your network, creating genuine engagement opportunities and stewarding funders once they have given.

Meet the Funder: RRF Foundation for Aging
Wednesday, April 29, 12pm ET (Zoom)

The RRF Foundation for Aging is a nonprofit funder devoted exclusively to issues related to aging and retirement. Each year, the foundation provides more than $6 million in funding to research, advocacy, and knowledge sharing projects that improve quality of life for older Americans across five key priority areas: age equity, caregiving, economic security, housing, and social connection. In this Meet the Funder webinar, RRF Senior Program Officer and Director of Research, Dr. Amy Eisenstein, will share insights about grant types, priority areas, and review processes. Dr. Deborah Carr, Professor of Sociology, Director of the Center for Innovation in Social Sciences, and past RRF grantee will also share her experience applying to and securing funding from the foundation. RRF Foundation for Aging grants are Limited Submission Opportunities at BU and the Office of Research manages internal competitions to select one applicant per department three times each year. The next internal competition will be held in the early fall so now is an ideal time to learn more about the foundation.
