Khalil, Denmore and Zhang elected to AIMBE College of Fellows
3 ENG Professors join medical and biological engineering elite.
Professors Mo Khalil (BME), Doug Densmore (ECE, BME), and Katherine Zhang (ME, BME, MSE) have been elected to the the AIMBE College of Fellows, in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in medical and biological engineering.
The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) represents the most accomplished individuals in these fields. Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer, and includes the field’s outstanding leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
• Dr. Densmore was recognized for outstanding academic and commercial contributions to bio-design automation in synthetic biology.
• Dr. Khalil was recognized for outstanding contributions to our understanding and engineering of genetic circuits that control cellular behaviors.
• Dr. Zhang was recognized for outstanding contributions to the understanding of how multiscale ECM mechanics and mechanobiology drives vascular physiology and pathophysiology.
The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.”
AIMBE Fellows are among the most distinguished medical and biological engineers including 3 Nobel Prize laureates, 18 Fellows having received the Presidential Medal of Science and/or Technology and Innovation, and 195 also inducted to the National Academy of Engineering, 94 inducted to the National Academy of Medicine and 43 inducted to the National Academy of Sciences.
