Understanding Class Gift

What is the Class Gift Campaign?

Every student graduates from BU as a different person than they were when they arrived. The Class Gift Campaign encourages graduating students to think about the institutions and organizations on campus that contributed to their growth and give thanks for the role those organizations have played in their BU experience. Last year the Class Gift campaign raised over $34,000 for causes across BU from 1,750 graduates.

What is the Class Gift Committee?

The Class Gift campaign is led each year by the Class Gift Committee, a group of undergraduate and graduate students who spearhead the fundraising campaign on behalf of the graduating class, plan major events to celebrate this important milestone, and welcome the Class of 2025 into the BU alumni community.

Who should apply for the Class Gift Committee?

If you love BU, are interested in giving back, or are looking for prominent leadership opportunities, the Class Gift Committee is for you! The Class Gift Committee is made up of undergraduate and graduate students from all of BU’s schools and from every class.

While the Co-Chairs of the committee must be rising seniors in the Class of 2023, graduate students and underclassmen are welcome (and strongly encouraged!) to apply for Board and Junior Board member positions.
Candidates must be passionate, motivated, organized, self-starters who are comfortable with public speaking, volunteer coordination, and networking with students, staff, and faculty, as well as BU clubs, programs, and departments.

The weekly time commitment includes: regular office hours, weekly committee meetings, and occasional evening/weekend events.

What are the positions on the Class Gift Committee?

The Class Gift Committee is made up of two Co-Chairs, 5-10 board members, and 20+ Junior Board members.

  • Co-Chairs: Steer overall strategy, serve as the most public-facing members of the campaign, lead committee meetings, set fundraising goals, and oversee work of Board Members. Co-Chairs are compensated with a competitive hourly salary and are asked to dedicate 15+ hours per week to the program.
  • Board Members: Oversee strategy and programming for a specific area of the campaign (i.e., event coordination, school/club outreach), manage Junior Board Members, work with Co-Chairs to align overall goals with programming, and find areas for collaboration with other members of the Board. Board members are asked to dedicate 2-3 hours per week to the program.
  • Junior Board Members: Plan and implement area-specific strategies and lead the way in educating fellow Freshmen and Sophomores about the Class Gift Campaign. Junior Board members are asked to dedicate 1-3 hours per week to the program.
