- Core faculty member in the Bioinformatics Program and in the Biological Design Center at the Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences & Engineering
“I began my career in industry, but I wanted the flexibility to explore the fundamental truths about living systems. What drew me to BU was the University’s focus on multidisciplinary research. For example, the mission of CDS is to bring data science to every discipline. BU makes it easy for students studying biology, marketing, philosophy, or any other field to take a data science course or do a minor. That means that all students—even those traditionally underrepresented in STEM—can learn how to extract powerful insights from data.
I make sure that every undergraduate student who comes to my lab has a meaningful experience.
Right now, I have undergrads assisting me with research on the fundamental organizing principles of cells and tissues. They learn the mechanics of doing science and build the skills they need to pursue their goals—whatever they may be.”
