Concurrent Registration for Undergraduate Students

Effective July 1, 2026

Except under cooperative arrangement (such as the Boston-Area Consortia or formal Study Abroad partnerships), matriculated and enrolled full-time undergraduate students may not earn units toward a BU degree for courses concurrently taken at another institution during the fall or spring terms. Students may request an exception if a course at another institution offers a unique opportunity not available at Boston University. Exception requests must be submitted to the University’s Undergraduate Academic Exceptions Committee and be approved in writing prior to enrolling in the course.

Part-time students may not earn units toward their BU degree for a course taken at another institution that is offered during the same term at Boston University.

Units for any course earned in another college or university under any cooperative arrangement with Boston University require specific approval before students can register for the course. All such courses must be taken for a letter grade according to the BU Residency Requirement and Transfer of Undergraduate Units policy.
