New Evening & Weekend Service!
Working in conjunction with the Student Union and the Dean of Students Office, we are pleased to announce that beginning on September 1, 2008, Boston University will instituted a new Evening & Weekend Shuttle bus service.
The Evening & Weekend Shuttle, administered by Parking & Transportation Services and operated by Peter Pan Bus Lines, provides service 7 days a week during the evening and early morning hours. The shuttle which runs until 2:00AM Sunday-Wednesday and 4:00AM Thursday-Saturday is intended to provide the Boston University community with convenient transportation throughout the Charles River Campus.
Peter Pan Bus Lines is Boston University’s preferred bus and motorcoach provider and operates the BUS service. You may contact their administrative offices directly by calling 800-334-6464.
For your safety, all BUS drivers have been directed by Boston University to limit standees per Massachusetts regulation. Should the capacity of a BUS be reached, we ask that you follow your driver’s direction and patiently wait in an orderly queue for the next shuttle. The waiting time for the next BUS should be reasonable given the frequency of its service.
We recognize that construction to improve the City’s infrastructure will continue to impact vehicle traffic and therefore BUS service. Traffic delays associated with these construction projects suggest that University members should strongly consider purchasing Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) Charlie Cards to enhance their travel options. Charlie Cards are “smart cards” that may be loaded with one of a variety of MBTA pass types or used as declining balance cards to pay public transportation fares. Charlie Card users also receive fare discounts. The MBTA’s Zone 1A Pass is the one most frequently recommended by Parking & Transportation to students because it provides its user with access to both MBTA trolley services (e.g., service to the T’s eight inbound and outbound Charles River Campus stops) and to the No. 57 MBTA bus, that provides frequent service (5:30AM – 1:15AM) to the following stops:
Outbound:
Kenmore Station Busway
Commonwealth Ave & University Rd
1079 Commonwealth Ave
Inbound:
Brighton Ave & Comm Ave
Commonwealth Ave & Carlton St
Kenmore Station Busway
For more information about these and other public transit options, the MBTA’s Student Semester Pass Program and to learn about current tax benefits to faculty and staff by purchasing monthly MBTA passes via payroll deduction, please visit the Parking & Transportation Website or contact that office by telephone at 617-353-2160 or by email at parking@bu.edu.
Red Sox Home Games:
While Boston Red Sox may signal the return of spring or a run for the Pennant, it also means increased traffic before and after Fenway Park home games. Users of The BUS should expect significant delays beginning two hours before the start of each home game and for approximately one hour after a game’s end (games typically last three hours). While we cannot know the exact extent of the delays in advance, we suggest users add at least one-half hour to their schedule. You can obtain a Red Sox schedule by visiting www.redsox.com and selecting the "Schedule" link.
We will do everything we can to keep the shuttle running on time; however, we have no control over the roadways we share with others.
Proof of University Affiliation Requirement
- A valid Boston University ID or other acceptable proof of affiliation with the University is required to board The BUS at Agganis Way (Stop M1) between the hours of 7:30 AM and 10:00 AM.
- To speed boarding, patrons should have their ID out and ready for inspection as only the front doors of the bus will be used during the above listed times.
