Services for Law Alumni
In order to best serve you, we welcome alumni Monday through Friday, 9AM-5PM, or by prior appointment on Sundays from 12PM-5PM, while legal information librarians are here to assist you in finding materials and make your research productive.
Upon arriving, please visit the Fineman Circulation desk with your alumni card and a photo id to register for law library use. Staff will update your record to reflect your new status and confirm your address, primary email, and contact phone number. Upon registration, law alumni may use all Boston University libraries and selected law library computing areas. Please note you will still need to sign in at the Fineman Circulation desk each time you visit the library.
Researchers conducting research on behalf of registered law alumni may gain access to the law library by presenting a letter on the alumni’s letterhead stating the dates of use and the general scope of the research.
Special hours may apply for holidays and when school is not in session. To ensure access, please feel free to call ahead before coming in.
Registered alumni have borrowing privileges at all of the University libraries. Most libraries, including law, circulate general materials for 30 days. Reserve, research, journals and other non-circulating materials may be used on-site only.
BU Law School alumni may also contact the reference desk to seek research assistance. The reference librarians can help you identify sources or help with research strategy. Please note they are unable to provide legal advice. Contact a reference librarian.
All of the law library’s scanners allow users to scan library materials and save directly to wireless devices or a USB key, or send scanned pages to email addresses. Automatic document feeders (ADFs) scan both single and double-sided documents.
The library licenses electronic resources from hundreds of providers. Most resources are available on campus to law alumni. Please visit the Fineman Circulation Desk to borrow a temporary password for on campus access to electronic resources. Due to licensing restrictions, some databases are not available to alumni and all databases must be used in the library.
An alphabetical list of databases and subject guides to electronic resources provide an overview of resources licensed by the law library. For non-legal materials, the BU Libraries maintain similar lists of databases.
We look forward to your visiting the law libraries.
