Alumni Services

Access

The 2nd floor, Mezzanine, and 3rd floor spaces and stacks will be closed through Sunday, August 20 to allow staff to complete collection and space related projects. Boston University alumni in need of materials, computing, electronic resources, and research assistance are welcome to utilize our remote services or request materials be pulled for pickup. To submit your research or collection related inquiry, contact lawlibraries@bu-law.libanswers.com.

Research

Our legal information librarians are available M-F 10am-2pm to assist with legal research needs. To speak with a legal information librarian, call 617-353-3151, chat us,  or submit a ticket.

Electronic Resources & Computing

If you are looking to utilize electronic resources or databases, please submit a ticket, explaining your research need and which databases you are hoping to utilize. A member of the library team will reply to discuss your access options. Unfortunately, due to vendor license agreements some electronic resources and databases are only available to current law students, including Westlaw Edge and Lexis+. 

Borrowing and print collection

From Monday, May 22 through Sunday, August 20, the stacks and physical collection will be closed for summer projects. Library staff will page requested materials from the collection..

To request materials:

  1. Submit a ticket or email lawlib@bu.edu. Include the titles, author, edition, and any relevant volume or issue information related to the materials you would like to access, or, links to the resources you would like to request from the library catalog.
  2. Library staff will reply within 1 business day to confirm receipt and ask for any additional information to locate the requested materials.
  3. Staff will pull the requested materials, check them out to your library account, and make the books/volumes available for contactless pickup. If you do not already have an alumni borrowing account, staff will reply to obtain updated contact information and confirm your alumni status.

The typical loan period for alumni is 30 days. Certain materials cannot be checked out and instead will need to be used within the library. If that is the case, staff will pull requested volumes and arrange a time for the items to be used within our 3rd floor spaces.

Scanning

Scanners are available on all library floors and a document feeder for scanning is available on the 3rd floor. 

The law libraries also provide scanning services for alumni. To request scans, complete the following form. Law library staff will evaluate your request for fair use compliance and reach out with any questions. Scan requests are typically filled within 24-48 hours. 

Printing

Unfortunately, the library is unable to provide copy or print services for alumni. Print services are available for a fee at the FedEx Kinkos on campus, located at 15 Cummington Mall.
