The American Constitution Society (ACS) believes that law should be a force to improve the lives of all people. ACS works for progressive change by shaping debate on vitally important legal and constitutional issues through development and promotion of high-impact ideas to opinion leaders and the media; by building networks of lawyers, law students, judges, and policymakers dedicated to those ideas; and by countering the activist conservative legal movement that has sought to erode our enduring constitutional values. By bringing together powerful, relevant ideas and passionate, talented people, ACS makes a difference in the constitutional, legal, and public policy debates that shape our democracy.

We are committed to voicing and addressing the issues facing Asian-Pacific Americans at BU Law, in Boston, and in the legal community at large. We sponsor various academic, networking, social, and community service events such as an annual Mentorship Dinner, a Lunar New Year Dinner, Meet The Firms, and a Greater Boston APALSA Conference that brings Boston-area APALSA groups together with the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts(AALAM). In so doing, APALSA hopes to help its members define their roles not only in the legal community, but also in the larger community.

The BU Black Law Students Association (BLSA) was founded in 1970 to provide support, direction, and community for Black students in professional and academic development.  A member of the National Black Law Students Association, BU BLSA serves to promote awareness of the relationship between race and justice in the American legal system. BU BLSA strives to enhance the experiences of Black law students by providing assistance to members in the development of their legal careers and to provide opportunities for exposure to various aspects of the legal profession.  We are committed to acting positively in the development of Black self-determination at large and strive to build ties between all segments of the Black community. We endeavor to cultivate a cohesive and culturally vibrant BU Law campus community.

The Business Law Society provides students with the opportunity to pursue their interest in business law beyond the classroom. We host networking and speaking events aimed at bringing successful professionals to the law school. We seek out opportunities to provide basic business law services in the community. We promote interaction and networking between various student groups and schools.

The Chinese Law Association (“CLA”) is dedicated to providing a platform for BU Law students and legal scholars interested in Chinese law, Chinese legal practices, and U.S.-China relations to develop a deeper understanding of Chinese legal doctrines, compare and contrast the two nation’s legal systems, and to discuss potential career in the Chinese legal market. The Association shall establish a forum so that participants may better understand China’s laws, politics, and society.  Another purpose of this Association is to provide a sense of belonging for all Chinese students at BU Law.

The Coalition of International Students and Global Affairs (CISGA) is committed to providing community and support to BU Law students coming from different nations around the world or interested in pursuing a career abroad. We seek to establish a support system for members throughout the entirety of their experience in law school, especially those from abroad transitioning to living, studying, and working in the U.S. We host forums as information sessions about the visa process, remote learning, and OCI for international students to discuss any issue nonimmigrant students at BU Law might have. We hope to foster a caring community of students and alumni not only for the nonimmigrant students but also for those who are interested in global practice.”

Communication, Entertainment, and Sports Law Association (CESLA) is a BU Law association dedicated to hosting and promoting events regarding the law around the communication, entertainment, and sports industry.

The mission of the BU Criminal Law Society (BUCLS) is to create a forum at Boston University School of Law in which any interested students, faculty, and staff can learn about the field of criminal law. BUCLS achieves this goal by organizing opportunities to discuss developments, trends, and critical issues within the area of criminal law, as well as creating networking opportunities with current practitioners.

The Disabled Law Students & Allies Association’s (DLSAA) mission is to provide a space of support for disabled law students at BU and advocate for general disability rights. The Energy and Environmental Law Society (EELS) seeks to expand Boston University’s environmental and energy law footprint through networking opportunities, initiatives to expand curriculum, and community outreach programs. The Federalist Society is a national organization of libertarian and conservative law students, professors, and lawyers interested in bringing about debate and conversation over important legal issues. On campus we bring in nationally recognized speakers to talk with students and debate with other distinguished scholars on the most pressing legal issues of the day. We also provide members with opportunities from different affiliate organizations as well as organize other activities with club members at BU and around Boston.

Boston University School of Law’s First Generation Professionals (FGP) is dedicated to serving students who identify as first generation professionals. First generation professionals are those who are the first in their family to graduate from baccalaureate college and/or those who are the first in their family to enter professional school. FGP welcomes those who are the first in their family to enter the legal profession. FGP recognizes that there is intersectionality and nuance in the first generation identity, so we welcome all who self-identify as FGP. We also actively encourage allies to join FGP. We acknowledge the resource gap that exists between first generation professionals and their peers. We equip our members with valuable resources such as informational sessions, networking opportunities, and professional development opportunities. We provide ongoing support for our members through mentorship and community building.

The Boston University Health Law Association unites students interested in areas of health law, and receives advice and guidance by some of the top health law faculty in the country. Our mission is to provide the BU community with an overview of what is happening in the health and public health communities here in Boston, through events, speakers, volunteering opportunities, clinics, externships, and networking opportunities with employers. There are many areas of health law that students may be interested in. We share a common interest in exploring these health law avenues as they relate to health, the provision of health care, and the search for various health law employment opportunities.

If/When/How is committed to educating, organizing, and supporting pro-choice law students to ensure that a new generation of lawyers will be prepared to successfully defend and expand reproductive rights. As part of a national organization, the BU chapter of If/When/How organizes with other law schools and pro-choice organizations to bring attention to the issue. In the past, If/When/How (previously known as Law Students for Reproductive Justice) has hosted speakers, volunteered at pro-choice facilities, sent student representatives to national conventions and trainings and facilitated discussions on a myriad of issues affecting reproductive rights. The Immigration Law & Policy Society is a collection of students interested in immigration law, including the process, the laws, careers, and policy. The group focuses on providing students a space to network with practicing immigration attorneys, learn about clinical opportunities, and discuss current events.

Intellectual Property Law Society (IPLS) offers interested law students a forum in which to discuss issues arising in the field of intellectual property law, to learn more about the practice of IP law, and to meet faculty and attorneys familiar with this specialized field. In addition to organizing both speaking and networking events for law students on campus, IPLS also strives to connect law students with the intellectual property legal community in the greater Boston area by promoting off-campus events related to IP. No science or technical background required! IP law encompasses copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets in addition to patents. IPLS is a great opportunity for law students to pursue their interests beyond the classroom and interact with their like-minded colleagues.

The mission of BU Law’s Latin American Law Student Association (LALSA) is to give students of Latinx background exposure to information, mentorship, character development and leadership skills within the legal field. Legal Follies stages an annual sketch comedy show written, performed and produced by law students to remind their friends and professors of the humorous side of law school and their chosen profession.

The Muslim Law Student Association (MLSA) aims to support Muslim students in the law school community by creating a sense of unity, providing academic and professional resources to help Muslim students succeed in the legal field, and fostering an environment that allows for better integration in the law school community. It also provides the broader BU law community with a direct resource on Islam and a forum to facilitate dialogue on legal and policy issues that pertain to Muslims.

Boston University’s Native American Law Student Association & Other Indigenous Peoples is a national NALSA chapter. The organization promotes education and awareness about Federal Indian law and tribal law on campus. In recognition of the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, we also hope to be a community for all indigenous peoples.

Boston University’s Plaintiff Law Association (BUPLA) supports students interested in a justice-oriented career representing consumers, workers, and communities that have been harmed by corporate and government misconduct. BUPLA connects students with practicing attorneys that are challenging the country’s most powerful institutions to vindicate the rights of their clients. BUPLA organizes opportunities for networking, informational sessions, and professional development for students interested in this field.

Formed in 1984, Boston University’s Public Interest Law Society (PILS) is a student-run organization whose mission is to foster a commitment to non-profit, government, and pro bono work and promote community service for all interested BU Law students and alumni, whether they ultimately pursue a public interest career or work in the private sector. To meet these goals, PILS organizes networking events, facilitates discussions and panels on public interest opportunities, and coordinates community service activities. Additionally, PILS helps raise money to provide grants to students who accept unpaid summer positions with non-profit, public interest or government organizations.

Radical Lawyers: BU’s National Lawyers Guild Chapter, is dedicated to addressing the need for basic change in the structure of our political and economic systems. We seek to unify like-minded students, faculty, and staff who recognize the importance of protecting civil rights and liberties; eliminating the oppression of indigent individuals and people of color; eliminating racism; and expanding the rights of workers, farmers, gender and sexual minorities, and people with disabilities. To the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests, we seek to educate ourselves and the communities in which we live about economic and social justice and to provide law students with pro bono opportunities in support of these goals. We look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the people, rather than for their repression.

The BU Law Real Estate Association aims to connect law students to the greater Boston University and Boston area business, real estate, development, and legal communities through networking and providing a venue for understanding the practice of real estate law, development, and finance. The RE Association also aims to promote learning and networking opportunities by conducting events in partnership with other organizations at both BU and schools in the greater community.
