eResources Update: MyiLibrary Electronic Book Collection

The law library now subscribes to the MyiLibrary Cambridge University Press electronic book collection consisting of 104 books from 2005-2007, all available in PDF format. ** Mac users: see below for display issues **

This guide is also available as a PDF with screen images: color or black & white.

Accessing MyiLibrary

MyiLibrary content is available anywhere you have an Internet connection.  You will be asked to log in with your BU username and Kerberos password.

Records for all of the books are being added to the BU Libraries catalog.  When you find a record in the catalog, it will include a link to the login page and from there to the specific title in the MyiLibrary collection.

Searching MyiLibrary

  • Use Quick Search to search the entire collection by author, keyword, subject, title or ISBN.
  • Advanced Search adds the ability to search phrases and to require or exclude terms. Limit advanced searches by subject, keywords in the title, or date published.

Reading books in MyiLibrary

  • Once you have located a book of interest, follow the Read Book link to view the text.
  • The Table of Contents view on the left provides an outline of the book.
  • Use the links from the table of contents to jump to specific sections of the book.  Use the navigation links across the top of the book to move between pages: “Go to page”,  “Previous”, “Next”, or “Section”.
  • The Search tab at the upper left hand corner of the screen allows you to search the book by keyword, helpful if you are trying to locate text for citation purposes.

Saving Content

  • By registering for an account with MyiLibrary, you will have access to added features including saved searches, notes and bookmarks.  These may be accessed from MyAccount on the main MyiLibrary page.
  • To create or retrieve notes within a book, select the Notes tab on the left side of the screen.  Saved notes include the page number for the page you are viewing.
  • To view all of the notes you have taken from all books, select My Bookmarks from MyAccount.  Notes can be printed or emailed from this screen.
  • You may copy text from MyiLibrary and paste it directly into Notes or directly into other software.

*** Mac Users

  • Safari Issue: Table of Contents link to the text of the book does not work. This can be solved by upgrading to Adobe Reader 8.   The download page will usually recognize what operating system is on the computer.  Once the Adobe Reader is downloaded, close all windows and proceed with installation.  As the final step in the installation, you will be asked if you want to integrate Adobe Reader with your browser.  Select “Yes”.

Please note that Adobe Reader 8 supports viewing PDF files inside Safari windows on Mac OS X 10.4.3 and later. It does not support any other browser or previous versions of Mac OS X.

  • Firefox Issue: Pages download individually, instead of within the MyiLibrary platform.
You will have all of the MyiLibrary functionality for browsing, but the pages will continue to open individually via the Mac Preview for PDFs. There currently isn’t a plugin that will fix this problem on Firefox.
