Library Restricted Access Period FAQ

Why does the law library have a restricted access period?

Law Library seating is very limited. Law students require non-circulating materials that are only available in the law library to prepare for their exams. In order to maximize study space for BU law students the library restricts access.

How is the restricted access period determined?

Law Library restricted access dates are determined using the reading and exam periods at the Law School. For Spring 2012 the restricted access period is Monday, April 23rd through Friday, May 11th.

I need to use non-circulating law materials to complete an assignment for this semester. How do I gain access to Pappas or the Annex?

The Law Library is open to all BU students who need to use our materials to complete assignments. Non-law students are required to show their BU ID and complete a brief form at either the Pappas or Annex circulation desks. If you prefer to print and fill out the form before arrival, click here for the PDF version. Please bring the form with you and give it to the desk attendant along with your BU ID.

I just need to borrow a book/make a copy. Do I still need to fill out the form?

No, you only need to fill out the form if you are going to be using study space in the library. Please stop at the Pappas or Annex circulation desk and let the desk attendant know that you are only retrieving a book or making a copy.

I have been studying at the Law Library all semester. Can I continue to study there during restricted access period if I can find a seat?

No, during exam periods the library is heavily used by law students. There may be some times when seating may appear to be available, but these seats are reserved for law students and other BU students actively using law materials.

I have a question about restricted access period that was not addressed.
