Kevin P. Gallagher’s research and teaching examines the political economy of globalization and governance for development in industrializing nations – particularly in Mexico and Latin America. He is the author of The Enclave Economy: Foreign Investment and Sustainable Development in Mexico’s Silicon Valley (with Lyuba Zarsky), and Free Trade and the Environment: Mexico, NAFTA, and Beyond. He has been the editor or co-editor for a number of books, including Putting Development First: the Importance of Policy Space in the WTO and IFIs, International Trade and Sustainable Development, and others. His popular articles and opinion pieces have appeared in The Miami Herald, San Diego Union Tribune, Financial Times, The Hill, Sacramento Bee, St. Paul Star Tribune, Providence Journal, and elsewhere. He writes a monthly column on globalization and development for the The Guardian (UK) newspaper.
He is a research fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future where he directs the Global Economic Governance Initiative. Professor Gallagher is also a research associate at the Global Development and Environment Institute of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, The Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, an adjunct fellow at Research and Information System for Developing Countries in Delhi, India, and a member of the US-Mexico Futures Forum. He has served as an advisor on trade and development policies to a number of national governments, international institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
