International Relations Courses

Undergraduate Courses

International Relations courses at the undergraduate level cover a wide variety of topics and provide students with a solid grounding in the theory and practice of the discipline. Courses at the 200 – 400 level are open to any undergraduate who has taken IR 271 and met any other prerequisite(s) for the particular course. Dual level courses (numbered in the 500’s) are open to upper-class International Relations majors only. If a student is not an IR major, the instructor’s approval is required.

Graduate Courses

The IR Department offers graduate level courses on a wide range of subjects, with particular strengths in security studies and regional studies. Dual level courses (numbered in the 500’s) are open both to graduate students and to upper-class International Relations major undergraduates. 700 level specialty courses are open to graduate students only.

Graduate students in IR may also register for graduate level courses outside the department with prior approval from the Director of Graduate Studies. IR courses numbered 100 through 500 are listed under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); 700 level courses are listed under the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GRS).
