All CAS Writing Center events take place at 100 Bay State Rd., in the 3rd floor Writers’ Studio. Enter the building through the Deerfield St. entrances, then take the elevator or stairs to the third floor, where you can find the Writers’ Studio on the south-facing side.

Upcoming Events

  • Topic Development will be held on February 11 from 2:30-3:30pm. The purpose of this workshop is to help students develop their research topics and questions. WR 15x students are encouraged to attend.
  • Word Puzzle Marathon will be held on on March 3 from 4:00-5:30pm. During this fun opportunity to destress right before Spring Break, we offer riffs on popular digital word games (e.g. Wordle and Connections), with the potential for prizes for the winners. All WR students were invited.
  • Hidden Statements will be held on March 19 from 2:30-3:30pm. The purpose of this workshop is to help students deepen their arguments, particularly by uncovering the “hidden” ideas they’ve left unsaid or have assumed need no further explanation. WR 15x students are encouraged to attend.
  • BU’s Clues: April Fool’s Edition will be held on April 1 from 3:30-5:00pm. Back by popular demand! Similar to last year’s scavenger hunt-style event, we will use the April Fool’s opportunity to give students practice with important information literacy skills and methods, like SIFT. All WR students are invited.
  • Writing After WR will be held on April 17 from 1:30-2:30pm. The purpose of this workshop is to help students transfer the writing skills they’ve developed in WR coursework to new contexts, including tips for writing professional emails, cover letters, and references.

Past Events

  • Portfolio Drop-In Support was held on December 3 from 3:30 – 5:00pm.
  • Public Speaking Workshop was held on November 18 from 2:00-3:30pm. The purpose of this workshop was to provide students with more tips and opportunities to practice their public speaking skills, whether for an upcoming alternative genre project or a class presentation.
  • Writing for Self-Care was held on October 30 from 4:30 – 6:00pm. This was an opportunity to relax and (re)appreciate the many ways that writing can improve your mental health, particularly during a stressful point in the semester.
  • AI and Academic Writing was held on October 6 from 3:30 – 5:00pm. The purpose of this workshop was to increase students’ critical AI literacy skills so that they can make more informed choices.
  • Peer Review Practice was held on September 24 from 2:30 – 3:30pm. The purpose of this workshop was to guide students through best practices for peer review, with a particular focus on reading strategies and providing peers with actionable feedback for all types of assignments, including alternative genre work like short stories, podcasts, and other creative work.
  • ELL Welcome Event was held on September 17 from 3:00 – 4:00pm.
  • Open House was held on September 10 from 12:00 – 4:00pm.
