Bio
Holly Connell Schaaf’s research focuses on Irish, Scottish, and English literature as well as experiential learning, ecocriticism, and ESL & Composition pedagogy.
With Allison Blyler she co-directs Boston Now and co-teaches a Mediated Integration course The World in a Pond in which ESL and NES students team up to visit local sanctuary Hall’s Pond and write about the site in a range of disciplines and styles.
Her courses “Imagining Animal Minds,” “Boston Animals Now,” and “Global Urban Animals Now” enable her to bring her passion for observing and writing about animals into her teaching as her students explore animal behavior at local Boston sites.
Like these courses, her class “Kinds of Minds” also combines readings and writing in multiple disciplines with outside-the-classroom adventures and guest speakers.
