Orientation & Activities
Once you are accepted into the Summer Study Internship Program, you will receive information that will answer many of your questions, from housing arrangements to campus life and what to pack for your summer in Boston.
After you move in, all participants will jump-start their summer experience with a fun and informative orientation. During this time, you will receive a welcome packet with helpful information about the program and adjusting to BU and Boston.
After engaging in a few group activities, you will participate in a workshop run by representatives from AIC, the internship placement agency that works with Boston University. This orientation will be a great opportunity for you to get to know fellow participants and program administrators. Classes begin on Wednesday, May 20.
On the morning of Friday, May 22, you will attend your first Internship Course meeting. After your class, we invite you to a welcome luncheon, where you will have time to speak with our Summer Study Internship Program staff, meet with your internship placement advisor, and enjoy time with your fellow program participants.
To close out the first week of the program, all participants will explore the city during our first social outing on Saturday, May 23.
The program also includes excursions to places of historic and cultural interest in and around the Boston area. Past activities include a Boston Duck Tour, a Red Sox baseball game, a visit to the New England Aquarium, and more. And of course, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to travel on your own or with new friends from the program.
Another highlight of the program is the final reception, which brings together students, their internship supervisors, and program staff to celebrate participants’ accomplishments over the summer. For activity details, visit the Internship Program calendar.
