NIH FY2025 Salary Limitation for Grants & Cooperative Agreements
NIH has issued updated guidance regarding the salary limitation for NIH grant and cooperative agreement awards and extramural research and development contract awards. Effective January 1, 2025, the salary limitation for Executive Level II is $225,700. See NIH guidance NOT-0D-25-085 for full details.
FY25 Salary Cap: $225,700
The new salary cap may be used for budgeting purposes effective immediately. For issued awards that were restricted to Executive Level II (see historical record of salary cap link), including competing awards already issued in FY 2025, if adequate funds are available in active awards, and if the salary cap increase is consistent with the institutional base salary, recipients may rebudget to accommodate the current Executive Level II salary level. No additional funds will be awarded.
Sponsored Programs has updated the Federal budget template to incorporate the new salary cap. There is a light red warning on the Federal Detail and Cost Share tab that will indicate if the NIH salary cap has been reached.
