Heine Discusses Global Trade Dynamics at Boao Forum for Asia

Amb. Jorge Heine

Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and former Chilean Ambassador to China, recently participated in a panel discussion on CGTN’s “The Heat,” focusing on the Boao Forum for Asia and the evolving landscape of global trade.

The discussion addressed the implications of the United States’ recent imposition of a 25% tariff on imported cars—a move that has unsettled foreign governments and automobile manufacturers. This tariff is part of a series of trade measures affecting China, Canada, Mexico, and the European Union, raising concerns about potential repercussions for the global economy.

During the forum, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation, the promotion of globalization, and the protection of the free trade system. Heine, alongside other esteemed panelists, examined how these developments might influence international economic relations and the strategic responses of various nations.
