Dean Taylor Discusses Akyeampong’s ‘Independent Africa’ at WorldBoston

On October 26, 2023, Scott Taylor, Pardee School Dean and Professor of International Relations, participated in the WorldBoston Chat & Chowder series alongside Professor Emmanuel K. Akyeampong from Harvard University. The discussion focused on Akyeampong’s new book, “Independent Africa: The First Generation of Nation Builders.”
The event, hosted at Foley & Lardner LLP and live-streamed on Zoom, provided an opportunity for the community to engage with global affairs topics. These sessions are known for combining intellectual discussions with networking opportunities and are part of WorldBoston’s ongoing book talk series featuring prominent authors and speakers on international affairs.
Scott Taylor is among our nation’s most respected scholars in African politics and political economy, with a particular focus on business-state relations, private sector development, governance, and political and economic reform. Prior to coming to BU, Taylor taught at Smith College and most recently at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where he was also Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the International Advisory Board for the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR), and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Endowment for Democracy.
