Heine Offers Thoughts on Chilean’s Rejection of New Draft Constitution

In an interview with CGTN America, Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, discusses the results of the constitutional referendum in Chile.

In his comments, Heine notes that the rejection of the proposed constitution is very counterintuitive considering that the public overwhelmingly voted in favor of drafting a new constitution two years ago. The rejection of the constitution is a major setback for President Gabriel Boric who supported the text strongly. Heine speculates that whenever another attempt is made to draft a new constitution, it should take less than a year with the help of more carefully selected committee members.
