Heine Publishes Op-Ed on Potential BRICS Expansion

In a Global Times op-ed, Ambassador Jorge Heine, Research Professor at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discusses the expansion of BRICS.

In his article, titled “How many BRICS in the wall?,” explores the prospect of Argentina joining BRICS – comprised of major emerging economies Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – and what this could mean for the Global South and wider world order. Argentina has been invited to attend this year’s BRICS summit, a major step in joining the group and only the second time BRICS has added a new member since South Africa joined in 2009. As Heine writes, the inclusion of Argentina and potentially Indonesia shows how BRICS is becoming emblematic of the new Global South, which has expanded economic opportunities for southern countries.
