Miller Publishes Article on Pakistan’s Ties With Taliban

Manjari Chatterjee Miller, currently a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and on leave from the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University where she is an Associate Professor of International Relations, published an article for the CFR breaking down Pakistan’s ties to the Taliban and how the group’s takeover of Afghanistan will be affected moving forward.

In the article, titled “Pakistan’s Support for the Taliban: What to Know,” Miller explains why Pakistan applauded the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan as well as its hopes for utilizing this relationship to their benefit. According to Miller, Taliban support could be vital in supporting Pakistan’s ideological, border, and geopolitical aspirations. The relationship between the two has changed since 9/11, and Miller says Pakistan hopes for positive relations to continue in order to counter the influence of encroaching powers including China, Iran, and Russia.
