Najam Attends Bellagio Workshop on “Biodiversity Revisited”
Dean Adil Najam of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University participated in a writing workshop for the ‘Biodiversity Revisited’ project of the Luc Hoffmann Institute at the Bellagio Center of the Rockefeller Foundation, held February 17-21, 2020 in Bellagio, Italy.
Adil Najam, who is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Luc Hoffmann Institute and also the Chair of the Steering Committee of the “Biodiversity Revisited: Sparking A New Approach To Research For The Biosphere” project, funded by the NOMIS Foundation with contributions from the MAVA Foundation, attended the workshop which brought together the project team with a group of promising early career researchers on biodiversity to think and write about a new research agenda for the field.
The goal of the project is to convene interdisciplinary experts in an intensive collaborative research process to critically evaluate what has come before – and to think creatively about the future of the science and policy that underpin biodiversity conservation. Biodiversity Revisited aims to create a new research agenda for society to effectively sustain the biosphere. The goal of Biodiversity Revisited is to critically examine the biodiversity narrative and consider what it would take to move closer to a new, innovative agenda around sustaining the biosphere.
Earlier, in the summer of 2019, the Boston University Pardee School had hosted the “Boston Biodiversity Talks” as part of the same project which had brought together global thought leaders from diverse sectors and backgrounds for a unique event to engage in an initial dialogue underpinning the Biodiversity Revisited initiative. A video of Adil Najam’s talk during this event can be viewed above, or here.
Adil Najam is the inaugural dean of the Pardee School and was a former Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Lahore Pakistan. Learn more about him here.
