The Pardee Graduate Council (PGC), the official graduate student organization of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted an October 26, 2018 talk with Harriet Cross, British Consul General for New England.
The conversation covered a wide-range of topics including what life is like as a British diplomat, career advice, and the current state of the world.
Brilliant meeting today with our Consul General @harryvx and @BUPardeeSchool Graduate Council students on life as a modern 🇬🇧 diplomat. Everything from career advice, to the UK in the world, to pawsome diplocats like @DiploMog and our own @Catsul_General. Thanks for having us! pic.twitter.com/7uruKup2AR

Harriet Cross has been a member of Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service for 20 years. Before becoming British Consul General to New England in 2016, she served as Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy in Yemen. The ongoing conflict there compelled her to organise the evacuation of the Embassy and she subsequently spent the rest of her posting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in her diplomatic career, Harriet had served at the British Embassy in Morocco and at the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York City. She has also worked in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London covering a number of jobs including EU trade relations and human rights policy. She has foreign policy experience with expertise in North Africa and Middle East politics. Serving as a British Diplomat, she is an expert in crisis management, international negotiation and communication, and international partnership development.
Very interesting conversation with these super smart students who are definitely going places. Best of luck to all @BUPardeeSchool students for your amazing future careers! https://t.co/cQKeaKWjI3
