GDP Center Hosts Discussion with Development Bank Leaders
The Global Development Policy (GDP) Center, an affiliated center of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted an April 18, 2018 discussion with José Antonio Ocampo, Co-Chair of the Central Bank of Colombia, and Jin Liqun, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, on the pressing questions facing investors and policymakers from the Western Hemisphere to Asia and beyond.
The discussion, entitled “Brighter Prospects or Rose Colored Glasses? New Views on the Global Economy,” was hosted with Boston University Federal Relations as well as Boston University President Robert A. Brown and Provost Jean Morrison. GDP Center Director Kevin Gallagher moderated the discussion with Ocampo and Liqun.
As financial leaders from across the world convene in Washington to cautiously celebrate what the International Monetary Fund sees as “brighter prospects,” Ocampo and Liqun discussed the concerns of emerging markets and developing countries despite the return of synchronized growth in the world economy for the first time since the global financial crisis of 2008.
The panel also examined whether there is justification for such complacency ten years after the global financial crisis and whether the return to global growth is a permanent one and in a form that can bring sustained economic development across the globe.
The GDP Center is a university-wide research center in partnership with the Office of the Vice President and Associate Provost for Research and the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies. The GDP Center’s mission is to advance policy-oriented research for financial stability, human well-being, and environmental sustainability.
