Fewsmith Speaks on U.S.-China Relations at the Carter Center

Joseph Fewsmith

Joseph Fewsmith, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, spoke at the sixth forum on relations between the United States and China, organized by The Carter Center in Atlanta, on December 7, 2017.

Fewsmith focused on China’s 19th Party Congress and its possible ramifications for China’s position in Asia. This annual forum, held alternately in China and the U.S., brings together senior scholars from China and the U.S. in an effort to find common ground on difficult issues.

Among those attending were Shi Yinghong, Professor of International Relations at Renmin University; John Garver, Professor Emeritus at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Institute of Technology; Dennis Wilder, formerly of the NSC and currently at Georgetown University, and Robert Ross, Professor of Political Science at Boston College. This is the fourth time Professor Fewsmith has participated in this forum.

Fewsmith is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently, The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (January 2013). Fewsmith travels to China regularly and is active in the Association for Asian Studies and the American Political Science Association.
