Biography
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Religious Studies at Boston University, with a Certificate in Women and Gender Studies. I am also affiliated with the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies. I received my B.A. in Philosophy and Classics from Middlebury College and my M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School (2021).
My dissertation, When Jews Are Women: Gender, Conversion, and the Politics of Life Writing, examines the place of the Jewish woman in modern antisemitism and its theories. Through several case studies of Jewish women’s personal writing between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, I propose a framework for understanding the paradoxes of the Jewish woman’s place in the context of modern secular culture.
I teach a wide variety of classes, from Introduction to Religion to Hebrew Bible to Death and Immortality. I also enjoy offering lectures and courses on religion to the broader community. Alongside my scholarly work, my series of photographs Self Portrait As Beloved has been shown at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. I welcome any and all queries.
