Alissa Valles is a poet, translator and scholar of Russian and Polish literature. She teaches Holocaust literature and film and has developed a new course on Stalin’s crimes that embraces history, film and literature; she has worked for the Dutch Institute of War Documentation in Amsterdam, where she was born, and has also taught writing and literary translation. She is currently at work on a book about the Polish-Jewish poet Aleksander Wat, My Prophet Jonah.
