Caroline Mahl Patel

Caroline Mahl is Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management & Underwriting for the Specialty Real Estate Finance group within Wells Fargo’s Commercial Real Estate division covering a number of specialized sectors including Hospitality & Leisure, Digital Infrastructure, Healthcare Real Estate, and Manufactured Home Communities. In this role, Caroline leads a team of specialized commercial real estate lenders in underwriting, loan structuring and portfolio asset management for SREF’s institutional and private clients in the U.S., United Kingdom and Canada. Before transitioning to her current role, Caroline was responsible for loan originations in the Hospitality Finance Group covering Wells Fargo’s institutional and private clients in the New York area.  

Prior to joining Wells Fargo Bank, Caroline held several positions within the Real Estate Group at Starwood Hotels & Resorts. During her 10+ year tenure at Starwood, she focused on real estate development and acquisitions including investment analysis, deal originations, contract negotiations, brand strategy and financial planning for the luxury and lifestyle segments. Caroline began her career as a consultant at Horwath Landauer specializing in feasibility studies, appraisals and market reports for hospitality and mixed-use development projects in the U.S. and Asia.  

An avid supporter of women in real estate, Caroline is an active member and deputy co-chair of the sponsorship committee for WX New York Women Executives in Real Estate to promote and advance the careers of women in the real estate industry. Caroline graduated with a B.S. in Hospitality Administration from Cornell University and César Ritz Colleges in Switzerland.
