Heather McCarthy

Academic Advisor

After three decades and a variety of roles in education, from teaching pre-k to advising graduate students, it is exciting to be advising first and second year college students. Prior to coming to CGS, I spent seven years working exclusively with BU’s student athlete population as the Associate Director of Student Athlete Services. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work in an academic setting. The transition to college can be both exciting and daunting.  Students have worked hard for the past twelve years to be here, and BU has endless opportunities for students to take advantage of.

I particularly enjoy getting to know what drove the student to choose Boston University, what their academic and career goals are and where their passions and interests lie. I enjoy directing students to the vast resources and opportunities that align with their goals and help them problem solve to remove roadblocks that arise.  This is truly a time when students have agency over what they get out of college. Beginning the journey with someone in your corner who can answer big and little questions to alleviate anxiety, encourage you to try new things, support you when it is challenging and celebrate your accomplishments along the way can make a difference in how you experience college.

In my free time I can be found cheering on my children, running with my dog, reading a book or practicing yoga. Any chance I get I escape Boston to Cape Cod.
