Q&A: CGS’s New Boston-New England Experience

This year, the College of General Studies is offering incoming first-year students the opportunity for an interdisciplinary, experiential education without leaving New England. The Boston-New England experience, hosted for the first time this year, gives students the opportunity to spend their spring semester in Boston, and continue with a Summer 1 semester that takes them to historical sites around New England.

Five Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Time at CGS

The College of General Studies offers much more than just what you learn in the classroom. By taking advantage of all that CGS has to offer, you’ll set yourself up for success, from your gap semester through Capstone and beyond. As a current junior and former CGS student, I’ve seen firsthand the many ways that CGS can help you grow as both a student and a leader. Here are some tips that helped me to get the most out of my CGS experience.

Brady vs. Manning: CGS professors crown a winner

Two College of General Studies professors addressed the question of whether Tom Brady or Peyton Manning is the better quarterback during a BU Friends and Family Weekend Event on Oct. 19. In “The National Football League Rivalry that Captivated America: Brady v. Manning,” Associate Professor Thomas Whalen and Senior Lecturer Andy Andres discussed NFL culture, the history of sports rivalries, and whether the distinction of who is the dominant quarterback should be dependent on statistics or wins. 

2019 Capstone Award Winners

On October 18, Boston University College of General Studies celebrated the outstanding students who received awards for the Capstone projects they completed last May. The Capstone award is given annually to the team of students who present the best overall Capstone paper and defense. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a College of General Studies student for an academic project.
