Sharing CGS Know-How in South Korea

Even universities founded in the fourteenth century—and located on the other side of the world—have something to learn from the College of General Studies.

In June 2012, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, South Korea, gathered international experts on general education to explore the future of the field. The oldest university in East Asia, Sungkyunkwan was established in 1398 as a neo-Confucian academy and is now home to one of the world’s premier business schools. Natalie McKnight, associate dean for faculty research & development and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Teaching & Learning, spoke about the importance of general education in the twenty-first century in a presentation titled General Education: Foundations for the Future. She also met with Boston University alumni during her visit.
