CGS Alum Brendan Fletcher Makes it to Semifinals on The Voice

CGS alumnus Brendan Fletcher (CGS’10, COM’12) made it to the top eight finalists on NBC’s hit show, The Voice, this season before being eliminated from the competition this week.
Fletcher always had a passion for music but initially decided to pursue a career in screenwriting and graduated from BU with a film and television degree. He returned to music after graduation and has been performing in small venues throughout New York City. After auditioning for NBC’s The Voice, Fletcher was selected to participate in the blind auditions and became one of 48 singers chosen to compete. The contestants appear on four teams with a celebrity coach, which include Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys and Adam Levine. Fletcher represents Adam Levine’s team. Viewers of the show vote each week to determine who continues and who is voted off.
Fletcher tells BU Today that the experience has been stressful but rewarding. The typical day is usually twelve hours long, from commercial shoots to duets to constantly performing to his best ability each week. Since the show has started, his voice has improved and he has overcome nervousness when performing on stage, he says. The show has pushed him to step out of his comfort zone.
From performing to bars in New York City to performing for millions on TV, this has been a life-changing experience for Fletcher. He has a chance to pursue his dream career of singing and playing music. Fletcher recalls advice from his coach, Adam, who says it’s not all about the vocal runs and hitting high notes but also about connecting with the audience.
For his final song on the show, Fletcher sang his own version of Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel.” The Voice airs on Mondays and Tuesdays 8/7c, so be sure to tune in to watch the rest of the season. Continue to follow Brendan’s music career on Twitter and Another Brother Band.
