Felix De Bona (CGS’15, CAS’17) Leads Soccer Team with Hard Work and Big Goals

Felix De Bona - bu tODAY - CopyFelix De Bona (CGS’15, CAS’17), tri-captain of the BU men’s soccer team, is having a stellar year that may put him on the path to major league success.

With eight goals this season, De Bona may beat his own 2009 record for most goals by a Terrier in a single season. He has been named to the watch list of the 2016 Mac Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top male and female soccer players in the country. Recipients of this award have gone on to become internationally known soccer players like Alexi Lalas and Mia Hamm. BU’s is one of only four programs in the nation to have two players named to the watch list. De Bona was named to the second team for the 2016 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship.

De Bona was born in Urussanga, Brazil. With his father as the soccer coach, De Bona played soccer every day and was motivated to continue playing soccer in college. Neil Roberts, the BU Men’s soccer coach, has extolled De Bona for his exceptional work ethic and motivation to do well academically and physically. He says this determination has “earned De Bona the respect of his teammates.” De Bona’s skill and excellence in the game could involve being drafted by a Major League Soccer team, a goal De Bona says “has been my dream for a long time.”

De Bona played for the Revolution’s U-23 team last summer and practiced with Sporting Kansas City, an American professional soccer club based in Kansas City, Missouri. “I believe I am in a good spot for the draft being ranked number one in the conference and number 56 nationally on topdrawersoccer.com,” he says. De Bona believes there is not only a possibility for him to get called for tryouts overseas but also with the  major league soccer team from his hometown in Revere, Massachusetts.

The College of General Studies is proud of De Bona’s dedication and hard work in pursuing his dream to play soccer professionally. We wish him success on his possible path to Major League Soccer
