What made you pursue your major?

“I watched a lot of news growing up and remember seeing all the reporters and wanting to be them one day. I especially took a liking to the Asian-American reporters since there are so few of them on air and particularly fell in love with Susan Tran. After getting accepted into the College of General Studies at Boston University, I learned that she was also a CGS alumni who later graduated from the College of Communications. I am so excited to be able to follow in her path.”

What are some activities you’re involved in outside the classroom?

“Sophomore year I became a CGS Dean’s Host and am currently a Dean’s Host coordinator. I also spent a few summers as a Student Advisor for CGS Orientation. It’s all been such an eye-opening experience because I’ve had the opportunity to watch students enter as freshmen and grow as leaders once they became more involved in the CGS community.”

What value did the College of General Studies add to your education?

“Through CGS I was able to become a great writer and interdisciplinary thinker. But beyond that, through my work as a Dean’s Host and Student Advisor, I grew out of my shell and become a more confident person. Those experiences taught me so much about who I am and want to be. My classes and leadership positions at the College of General Studies shaped me into the person I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful.

If you could give one tip to incoming freshmen, what would it be?

“Don’t worry about what your future is going to hold. I see so many freshmen who come into college with this to-do list of what needs to be done for them to get the perfect resume and the perfect job. The truth is that good grades and a great resume will come if you just experience college one day at a time and do what makes you happy. Everything will eventually work out and everything happens for a reason.”
