What’s your most memorable College of General Studies experience?

“I studied Humanities in London the summer between my freshman and sophomore year and it was a great experience. I especially loved having the opportunity to learn from a British professor because he had a different perspective on social issues. We also took a lot of field trips which was amazing because it was fun to learn something and then actually be able to relate it to concrete experiences. It’s cool that CGS offers the opportunity to study abroad so early in your college career.”

What do you do when you’re not in the classroom?

“I did research with Professor Schoch and Professor Deese, who are CGS professors of Natural Science and Social Science respectively. With Professor Schoch I translated archaeological texts about a site called the Gobekli Tepe from German to English and with Professor Deese I translated a biography on the author and activities Elizabeth Mann Borgese. Professor Schoch and Professor Deese are both very established in their fields so it was fun to talk to them and learn so much about those niche topics.

I’m also super involved in my sorority and currently serve as the VP of Philanthropy. I really love doing that because it involves a lot of event planning which is what I hope to eventually go into.”

What do you hope to do after graduation?

“I want to go into event planning! I had an event planning internship this summer and loved it, so I look forward to pursuing that career path. I also hope to travel a lot.”

If you could give one tip to incoming freshmen, what would it be?

“Keep an open mind. Don’t stress about your college experience and what clubs or major you want to pursue. If you do what makes you happy you’ll find your place.”
