What was your most memorable College of General Studies experience?

“The Capstone project that all CGS students need to complete at the end of their sophomore year. It’s a great way to synthesize the years and a good tool to set the foundation for teamwork and research projects down the road. My teammates and I wrote a policy recommendation for war crimes, basing our research on the case of Abu Ghraib. We endured a lot of challenges but also had a lot of triumphs and ultimately won the Capstone Award.”

Have you been able to maintain a relationship with any of your College of General Studies professors?

“My social science professor, Professor Varat, was pretty much my mentor freshman and sophomore year. I make an effort to go visit him when I can. Since we’re both history geeks we’ll often talk about topics such as the election or what’s going on in world affairs.”

What do you do when you’re not in the classroom?

“I was involved with the CGS student government both my freshman and sophomore year, eventually becoming secretary my sophomore year. Being secretary at CGS was pretty amazing because student government was almost nothing when we got there so I had the chance to develop it from the ground-up. We established new committees, positions and events such as professional LinkedIn workshops and school-wide study groups during exams. Students and professors collaborated to create study guides. Being in student government opened up a lot of doors for me because I gained leadership capabilities. I am now part of the Boston University student government and next year will be a Dean’s Host Coordinator for CGS.”

What’s your favorite place to go in Boston?

“South Washington Street in the South End because that’s where the SoWa Market takes place. It’s so trendy yet upscale and reminds me of Brooklyn. I’m a big foodie and really enjoy all the venders at the market as well as the cool restaurants in South Boston. There’s also a nice vintage store that sells stuff from the WWII and the 1950’s which I find exciting as a history buff! If anything, it’s always amazing to go check out some of the incredible mthat you can find in the crafts section of the market.”
