An international online conference on Evangelical Historiography from the Evangelical Studies Program at Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion, and co-sponsored by Baylor’s History Department

Time: Wednesday October 5, Thursday October 6, and Friday October 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (U.S. Central Time)

After successful conferences in 2020 on Evangelicals in Latin America and in 2021 on Evangelicals and Religious Freedom, the Evangelical Studies Program at Baylor ISR will hold a conference on the history of Evangelical historiography. It will examine how Evangelicals have understood their own past.

It will range over the period from the eighteenth century to the present and will have papers on many parts of the globe. There will be presentations on America and Britain, but also contributions on Australia, Brazil, India, South Africa, and the missionary movement. We shall hear about the Anglican Evangelical tradition, representations of C. S. Lewis and African American uses of the Bible.

The conference will be conducted by Zoom. Papers will be pre-recorded and will be followed by live Q and A between the presenters and those attending the conference.

Participation is free, but registration is essential. PLEASE REGISTER in advance through the Evangelical Studies Program website. Google ‘Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion’, select ‘Programs + Research’, click on ‘Evangelical Studies Program’ and then on ‘View/Learn More’. Closer to the conference, you will receive information by e-mail about how to join via Zoom.

The papers from the Latin American conference have been published by Baylor University Press in 2022 as The Gospel in Latin America. Those from the conference on Religious Freedom will also appear in print from Baylor University Press and it is planned to publish papers from this conference on historiography too.

Do plan to join us for Evangelicals on their Past!
