The National Science Foundation awarded a $550,000, three-year grant to a team of four Boston University professors. The research team is composed of two Questrom School of Business professors–Marshall Van Alstyne and Nina Mazar– as well as two Computing and Data Sciences professors–Ran Canetti and Mayank Varia. As Yahoo Finance notes, the research concerns the issue of free speech vs. facts.

Excerpted from Boston University Questrom School of Business and Boston University Computer and Data Science Professors Receive Prestigious $550,000 National Science Foundation Research Grant” (Yahoo Finance, 12/08/22):

"Societies function poorly without free speech. They also function poorly when members cannot agree on basic facts.”

The aim of the granted research is to examine and discover technology-aided social structures that minimize the negative impacts of fact-confusion while promoting peoples’ right to freedom of speech.
