The purpose of this study was to provide a detailed description of language and cognitive profiles found among individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), particularly those with limited language abilities. This study aimed to advance our understanding of language-related processes in individuals with autism, the knowledge of which will help in designing future interventions in this population.

What did participants do?

We used standardized assessments, non-invasive EEG (electroencephalogram), and non-invasive brain imaging if appropriate. Participation involved between two and six 2-hour visits to Boston University for standardized assessments and EEG. If appropriate, participation also involved one to two 2-hour visits to Massachusetts General Hospital for MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).
