Scarlet Speaker Application

BU Admissions is looking for talented students like you!

What is a Scarlet Speaker?

A Scarlet Speaker works with Board of Admissions staff members leading information sessions for prospective students and their families. The role of the Scarlet Speaker is to give the student perspective about what life is like at Boston University and provide real-life examples of what students can accomplish and be involved in at BU.

Scarlet Speakers will:

  • Have strong academic experiences in which they have felt challenged and motivated by their professors and classmates (including, but not limited to, research, internships, minors, study abroad, etc…)
  • Be confident that BU was the right choice for them and a good investment in their future
  • Be proud and active members of the BU community
  • Be comfortable and confident speaking in front of large audiences (sometimes over 300 people)
  • We are also hiring students for our admitted students’ events held in the Spring. This role is geared towards First Year and Sophomore students who will participate in admitted students programming such as panels during open house rather than our information sessions held daily at the visitor center.

Requirements:

  • Available at least twice a week during information session times
  • Open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Attend monthly meetings and training sessions (training will begin in January 2025)

Compensation:

  • Scarlet Speakers are paid hourly at a current rate of $15.50 per hour
  • Speakers will be paid for training sessions and monthly meetings
