What is a Summer Student Admissions Representative (SAR)?
Each year, BU Admissions welcomes over 35,000 visitors to campus each summer at our Visitor’s Center. Summer SARs are dedicated, enthusiastic students who enjoy sharing their positive experiences of BU with prospective students and families. BU Admissions is looking for undergraduate students who are not only sincere and personable but also committed to professional development and attention to detail.
This is a full-time position Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m for the entirety of Summer 2026.
Summer SARs are responsible for:
- Greeting visitors, answering questions, scheduling and adjusting reservations, making suggestions of things to do and see while on-campus and in Boston, and assisting with administrative duties as assigned by a supervisor or a Summer Coordinator
- Leading hour-long walking tours of the University—often twice a day during our busiest times
- Answering incoming phone calls and emails
- Serving as a student speaker in large information sessions with up to 150 attendees
- Leading and participating in virtual information sessions and student panels

Qualifications:
BU Admissions is looking for enthusiastic, committed, and professional undergraduate students who enjoy working with people and who would like to share their enthusiasm for BU with prospective students and their families. We are actively looking for students from all across BU, from all Schools & Colleges, in order to find a representative sample of BU.
Students must be actively enrolled and registered for classes in an undergraduate degree-seeking program and in good academic and judicial standing with Boston University throughout their tenure in the position. A minimum of a 2.5 cumulative GPA is required, and students on academic probation may not continue working with BU Admissions in any capacity. BU Admissions will conduct periodic checks with the appropriate student service offices in order to verify eligibility of all their employees.
Finally, students cannot hold another on-campus, paid position throughout the summer even if it does not conflict with work hours. Students cannot take classes that conflict with the 8:30am-5:00pm workday.
Students are expected to be available in the spring semester for a pre-training meeting in early April, unless they are currently studying abroad. This position is open to undergraduate students only. Students graduating in May 2026 are not eligible to apply.
Dates of Employment:
Tuesday, May 19th, 2026 – Friday, August 28th, 2026
Students may take six unpaid vacation days during the period of June 8th through August 14th.
Move in date will be Monday, May 18th, 2026
The Student Admissions Representative role is a demanding commitment; students may not be employed by any other BU office or department between May 18th and August 28th, 2026.
Mandatory Training Dates:
Meet & Greet: (time TBD, students studying abroad are excused)
Tuesday, May 19th, 2026 – Friday, May 29th, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Compensation:
- $16.00/hr
- On-campus apartment-style housing provided from Monday, May 18th through mid-August. Summer SARs are required to live in on-campus housing.
- Note: If you are studying abroad or living off-campus in the fall semester, housing is not provided bridging the gap between summer housing ending and the last day of work.

- Completed Professional Recommendation form. This form should be completed by a current or former supervisor who can speak to your ability to perform the Summer SAR position. The reference does not need to be from a BU faculty or staff member.
Application Deadlines:
Applications are due no later than Sunday, February 8th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Professional recommendation forms are due no later than Friday, February 13th, 2026.
After receiving your application, a Summer Coordinator will be in touch in early February to schedule an interview.
