Submissions

We invite you to submit an exemplary essay that you wrote for a WR course or equivalent to WR, our annual e-journal of outstanding student essays. Writing instructors on the journal’s editorial board will review the anonymous essays and select 10–12 to publish each academic year. All submitted essays will also be eligible to win one of three or four Prize Essay Awards ($100 Barnes and Noble gift cards). Essays selected for publication will be copyedited, and the staff may request the author to make some revisions.

We are looking for essays that are ambitious and scholarly,  include a strong argument with supporting evidence, and present compelling ideas in a compelling fashion to a broad readership. Essays should also demonstrate excellent grammar, punctuation, diction, and structure.  Essays winning the Prize will be distinguished by an especially clear sense of purpose and by rhetorically accomplished style. All disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome, as well as all genres, from explications to scientific reports to research papers.

Please visit our Submission Form page for more information about how to submit an essay and our FAQ page for answers to common questions.
