Family & Friend Visits

We know you’re looking forward to immersing yourself in new academic challenges and making new friends. Chances are, you may want to invite your family and friends to Boston for a visit so you can share the experience with them. If so, please view each individual program policy regarding family and friend visits.

High School Honors and Research in Science & Engineering (RISE)

If a parent or guardian is in town and would like to spend time with you or if you would like to visit relatives or family friends within city limits, that visit must be scheduled during your free time when there are no activities planned. You must return to the dorm by curfew.

In addition, your parent or guardian must submit an electronic leave request form. This request must be received at least 48 hours before you plan to leave campus and no later than 5 pm on Friday. Your parent or guardian will need to provide details about the visit, including the time that you will be picked up and dropped off at campus and the mobile phone number of the relative or family friend you will be with. A student is authorized to leave only after our office sends your parent or guardian approval via email.

If you must miss a program activity because of a special circumstance, your parent must submit an electronic leave request form. A standardized test is not considered a special circumstance, and no student will be permitted to miss a mandatory program activity in order to take a standardized test. This request must be received at least one week before the program begins. Your parent or guardian will need to provide a description of the special circumstance, the date and time you will be away from the planned activity, and the contact information for the person you will be leaving campus with. Requests made once the program begins will not be considered. You are only authorized to leave once the Summer Term office sends your parent or guardian approval via email.

Overnight absence from campus*

*Only for High School Honors and RISE students. Overnight absences are not allowed for Summer Challenge, Summer Preview, or AIM students.

Due to the six-week duration of the High School Honors and Research in Science & Engineering (RISE) programs, students occasionally need to leave campus overnight (for family events, emergencies, etc.). If you need to be away from campus overnight, your parent or guardian must submit an electronic leave request form. This request must be received at least 48 hours before you are planning to leave campus and no later than 5 pm on Friday.

We ask that overnight absences be kept to a minimum as participants are expected to take part in weekend program activities. Please note that the overnight stay must be scheduled during your free time when there are no classes, labs, workshops, or activities planned. You are authorized to leave only after the Summer Term office sends your parent or guardian an approval via email; approval cannot be granted over the phone.
