Minor in Systems Engineering
Undergraduate students can earn a minor in Systems Engineering, where they learn about building, analyzing and managing electrical, mechanical, chemical, biological or logistical systems, among others.
Degree Type
- Undergrad Minors
Minimum Requirements
- 5 Courses
- 20 Credits
Formats
- In-Person
Location
- On-Campus

Requirements
- A Minor in Systems Engineering is earned through completion of 20 credits. Twelve credits must be unique to the minor and may not count toward the fulfillment of majors or additional minors. No more than 8 credits can be used to satisfy the student’s major degree program requirements.
- Five courses (20 credits) selected from the lists below.
- Students are expected to obtain necessary background (prerequisites or equivalents) to complete their chosen minor program.
- A minimum 2.00 GPA is required in the courses used to satisfy the minor, with no grade less than a C–.

Timeline to Declare
- Students must have a declared major on record in order to apply for the Minor in Systems Engineering.
- Applications for a Minor in Systems Engineering must be approved by the Minor Coordinator of the Division of Systems Engineering.
- Students planning to pursue a minor in Systems Engineering should apply as early as possible—or by May 1 of the junior year—to facilitate course planning.
The following courses may be used to satisfy the requirements of the Systems Minor. Note that many of these are advanced courses with pre-requisites, and students are responsible for fulfilling these:
- Students may only take one course from the following list:
ENG EC 401 Signals and Systems
ENG BE 403 Biomedical Signals and Controls - Students may only take one course from the following list:
ENG EC 402 Control Systems
ENG BE 404 Modern Control in Biomedical Engineering
ENG ME 403 Atmospheric Flight Mechanics and Control
ENG ME 404 Dynamics and Control of Mechanical Systems - Students may choose any of the courses from the following list:
ENG EC 330 Applied Algorithms for Engineers
ENG EC 414 Introduction to Machine Learning
ENG EC 415 Communication Systems
ENG EC 441 Introduction to Computer Networking
ENG ME 416 Introduction to Robotics
ENG ME 420 Supply Chain Engineering
Some 500-level and 700-level Systems Engineering courses can be used by petition.
