If you’re interested in teaching middle or high school biology (grades 8–12), the graduate certificate in Biology Education at BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development will give you the tools you need to become a more effective teacher by preparing you for initial licensure as a secondary-level biology teacher in Massachusetts. You’ll explore science education theory and practice, ways to teach English language learners, methods for managing a classroom, theories about adolescent development, and more.
As a student in the graduate certificate program, you’ll learn to help your students understand scientific concepts, view themselves as active learners of science, and appreciate scientific practices and cross-cutting concepts. You’ll also learn how to lead your classroom by establishing a classroom culture that uses research-based practices to build strong relationships with your students. Students in the program complete field-based experiences to complement their coursework.
