Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
At BU Wheelock, we are committed to being the cause of systematic and individual changes that lead to more equitable, diverse, and inclusive environments. We encourage all our students, staff, faculty, and alumni to come together as a community and engage with each other to do the following:
- Cultivate mutual respect and a sense of belonging
- Support marginalized faculty, staff, and students, whose experiences enhance learning, research, and partnerships
- Advocate for systemic, structural changes through radically honest self-reflection
- Empower agency within ourselves, each other, and community partners to address privileges and inequities in education and human development (such as race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, hearing status, and socioeconomic status, among other factors)
We can all be catalysts for change. This means working together to leverage power and privilege to disrupt historical and ongoing oppressive systems. We hope you’ll take a look at BU Wheelock’s resources related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
BU Wheelock hosts several affinity groups for members of our community interested in building networks, supporting one another, and helping each other hone their skills. These groups build a sense of community and belonging—and offer students the chance to meet others who may understand their culture, background, or area of study.
If you’re interested in joining one of our affinity groups, email the contacts listed below to get started.
AAPI Affinity Group
Educators of Color
Counselors of Color in Training Organization (COCITO)
Counselors of Color in Training Organization (COCITO) seeks to be an important space for diversity and inclusion by creating a foundation that focuses on supporting underrepresented students within the counseling psychology master’s and doctoral programs at BU Wheelock. The organization aims to create opportunities to work on skills, advocate for mental health needs in communities of color, and create avenues to network with underrepresented leaders in the field. COCITO further strives to create a supportive and nurturing student experience that promotes a sense of community and well-being while pursuing graduate training.
2SLGBTQ+ Affinity Group
The 2SLGBTQ+ Affinity Group is open to any graduate students who identify outside the strict cisgenders and heterosexuality, including folks who are Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, aromantic, and so on. Through various social networks and activities, we create space and time for us to share community, solidarity, and joy.
