Take a Break at The Wellbeing Experience

Press pause on your busy routine for a few moments and join us at “The Wellbeing Experience” on Wednesday, December 6, 3-6 pm, in Metcalf Ballroom (GSU 2nd floor) and Wednesday, January 24, 5-7 pm, in the Hiebert Lounge (Med Campus).

This event, intentionally scheduled a few days prior to the start of reading period and final exams, as well as at the start of a busy semester, invites all students to momentarily step away from their academic commitments to enjoy some activities that promote community, relaxation, gratitude, creativity and play. By visiting unique stations, students will experience wellbeing activities that can be incorporated into their lives in ways big and small during their college years and beyond!

Each experience has been created to support various dimensions of your wellbeing. Try the Hangout Hammocks. Practice Gratitude on the Spot. Relax in the Zen Zone. Or get nostalgic at The Play Station.

Food and refreshments will be served. This event is always a student favorite – so grab your friends and we’ll see you there!

Thank you to our Wellbeing Experience sponsors, Undergraduate and Graduate Affairs.

Check Hunger Food Drive

Bring shelf stable food items to any BU men's hockey home game in November and be entered to win a 12-person suite to the 1/27 BC game!

It is estimated that 30-50% of college students experience food insecurity. Learning and thriving can’t happen when a student is concerned about where their next meal will come from.

We have the unique opportunity to provide assistance to those within our own community. Help BU Student Wellbeing “Check Hunger” by bringing non-perishable food items to any Terriers men’s hockey games in November. Donations will be collected in the Agganis Arena lobby, then delivered to the BU Food Pantry, which is open to all BU students.

Your donation will enter you to win a suite for 12 at the 1/27 men’s Hockey game against Boston College. Parking and Food included!

Student Wellbeing to Offer Two Hub Cocurriculars in Spring ’24

Student Wellbeing is excited to continue to partner with Undergraduate Affairs and the BU Hub to offer cocurricular experiences to undergraduate students. In Spring '24, Student Wellbeing will offer two Hub Cocurriculars, with registration on the Student Link starting October 29, 2023.

Thriving Together

Need to fill a Hub Teamwork/ Collaboration requirement? This exciting cocurricular examines what wellbeing looks like in your own life, as well as at BU. Explore wellbeing concepts through teamwork activities that culminate in a proposal for a wellbeing project that could be considered for funding. HUB CC 107: Thriving Together meets Wednesdays 2:30-4:15 pm.

Wellbeing for Leaders

Leaders have a unique role in their organizations and community. It’s critical that they know how to care for themselves as individuals in addition to caring for their organizations. This Hub cocurricular invites students to explore how to manage the demands of being a leader by learning skills and strategies they can use to promote their own wellbeing and simultaneously cultivate a culture of wellness within their organizations. Wellbeing for Leaders satisfies 1 Hub requirement in “Teamwork/Collaboration” within the “Intellectual Toolkit” capacity. HUB CC 108: Wellbeing for Leaders meets Tuesdays, 3:30-4:45 pm.

“Our New Chapter” on Display October 3 – October 8

“Our New Chapter,” an exhibition by Will Chapman (COM '26), in partnership with Student Wellbeing, will be on display at BU’s Fitness and Recreation Center, October 3-October 8, with a private gallery opening October 2.

“Our New Chapter” is a photographic and written series that investigates the first semester of college. Documented during the first year of BU’S Class of 2026, this project offers a snapshot into the lives of twenty-six students as they embark on the journey of beginning anew.

Will Chapman is a photographer specializing in portraiture and events. As a student in BU’s Class of 2026, William created “Our New Chapter” to connect with other first years in a meaningful way and to serve as a creative coping method during his first semester.

In order to share “Our New Chapter” with those who may be going through similar experiences, William partnered with Student Wellbeing, a campus-wide initiative to support students’ health and wellbeing. They recognize that everyone deserves to feel good and hope students find ways to do that during their time at BU and beyond. In this gallery collaboration, twelve student profiles are on display highlighting their struggles and experiences, along with the resources available to support them.

Stress ReLeaf: Working with Tea for Calm & Focus Returns for Fall 2023

This Student Wellbeing initiative uses tea as a catalyst for mindfulness. Part education/part relaxation, this weekly workshop explores the ancient practice of “gong fu cha” – also known as “making tea with skill” – and highlights various types of single-origin teas, teaware, tea terroir, tea producers, brewing techniques, and the science behind the leaf.

Each session will be capped at 10 attendees to help foster a space that focuses on the power and simplicity of the present moment, as well as to allow for more hands-on brewing engagement.

Workshop offered Mondays, from 4-5 pm, beginning September 18, at the Howard Thurman Center, 808 Commonwealth Avenue.  Register for a session. If this week's session is full, keep checking back as registration is posted on a weekly basis.

And be sure to check out this video in BU Today for a sneak peek at this awesome workshop!

Happy Terrier Walk Brings Students Together

This Fall, Student Wellbeing and the BU Fitness and Recreation Center are delighted to support a student-run initiative designed to promote social, physical, environmental, and emotional wellbeing – Happy Terrier Walk!

When Yael Rudelman (CAS ’26) came to Student Wellbeing with an idea, we were excited to make it come to life! Led by Sonya Nguyen (SPH '24), Graduate Assistant for Programming, Happy Terrier Walk invites current students to meet on Marsh Plaza at appointed times to enjoy a leisurely walk on the Esplanade. Each walk is intended to help students meet new people, keep moving, appreciate the beautiful scenery adjacent to our campus and feel the stress-reducing effects of going on a walk with a friend.

Walks will run on an almost weekly basis on Friday evenings from 5 - 6 pm (see below schedule).

To stay informed, sign-up for our Happy Terrier Walk roster and you will receive updates with changes to walk locations and other important information.

Walking & Wellbeing

Did you know that walking with others supports many dimensions of your wellbeing? Spending time outside provides the opportunity to appreciate the relationship between ourselves and the environment. By participating in a shared interest with others, you foster a sense of belonging, a core component to social wellbeing. Engaging in physical activity such as walking can boost your mood and reduce stress, as well as increase cardiovascular health, strengthen bones and boost muscle power and endurance.

Warm Coat Drive to Provide Coats for Students

It’s time to search your closet for that gently used coat you may not need. Another BU student could put that coat to good use this winter.

The Warm Coat Drive is an opportunity for all members of the BU community to donate gently worn or new coats that will be distributed to BU students. Any remaining coats will be donated to Goodwill Industries.

  • Coat Collection October 10 & 11. Collection bins at BUMC (next to Chequers Café), George Sherman Union Lobby, FitRec Lobby and Center for Career Development (6th floor of Yawkey Center for Student Services).
  • Coat Distribution October 16 & 17. If you are a student concerned about keeping warm this winter, stop by GSU Room 315 on the Charles River Campus on 10/16 from 3-6 pm or Med Campus Instructional Building Room L107 on 10/17 from 12-2 pm to pick up a coat. Coats distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The Warm Coat Drive is part of a larger effort to ensure students’ core needs are met. Explore resources available to support core needs both on campus and in the local community including meals, clothing, and emergency needs.

The Warm Coat Drive is a partnership between Center for Career Development, Newbury Center, Student Wellbeing, and Sustainability.
